Choral Scholarship
To help develop the next generation of choral singers, the Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship allows one or more talented young singers (aged 15–19) from local schools to rehearse and perform with us for one concert. Applications are invited in September, with auditions in mid-October.
“Nurturing young talent is increasingly a focus for the Fairhaven Singers, and we’ve been very impressed by the high calibre of applicants over the years” says Musical Director Ralph Woodward. The Choral Scholar(s) join the choir for the Lent Term, culminating in the year’s major concert, which takes place in March in one of Cambridge’s top venues, accompanied by a professional orchestra. Sharing the stage with an accomplished chamber choir and professional soloists and players should be a thrilling experience for any ambitious young choral singer.
Here’s what some past holders of the scholarship have said:
David, 2026 holder: “The Fairhaven Singers have been welcoming, and singing with them has given me the opportunity to look at one longer work in much more depth than is normally possible in other contexts, for which I am grateful. As I prepare for A-Levels, singing provides an excellent grounding force through an otherwise hectic time.”
Eleanor, 2025 holder: “The standard is high, meaning audible progress is made each rehearsal, which can be very satisfying. The people are also lovely and very welcoming.”
