Choral Scholarship

To help develop the next generation of choral singers, the Treatt Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship allows one or more talented young singers (aged 16–19) from local schools to rehearse and perform with us for one concert. Applications are invited in September, with auditions in mid-October.

“Nurturing young talent is increasingly a focus for the Fairhaven Singers, and we’ve been very impressed by the high calibre of applicants over the years” says Musical Director Ralph Woodward. The Choral Scholar(s) will join the choir for the Lent Term, culminating in the year’s major concert, which takes place in March in one of Cambridge’s top venues, accompanied by a professional orchestra. Sharing the stage with an accomplished chamber choir and professional soloists and players should be a thrilling experience for any ambitious young choral singer.

Here’s what some past holders of the scholarship have said:

The best thing about the Fairhaven Singers for me has been the welcoming atmosphere… I’m learning a lot about choral musicianship.

Jenni Buss, 2023 Choral Scholar

I love being able to hear the music when it all comes together. It’s such a nice feeling to hear the music sounding so beautiful, knowing that I play a part in it.

Ananya Malaviya, 2022 Choral Scholar
