We are thrilled to announce the release by Convivium Records of our recording of Jonathan Dove’s Sappho Sings, which represents the culmination of a project stretching back over five years to when we commissioned the piece. It was a pleasure to work with the sensational London Mozart Players and we are very pleased with the result!
You can buy the CD or the MP3 direct from Convivium Records or buy a CD from us at a Fairhaven Singers concert or by emailing our Secretary. You can also stream the music on the usual online platforms.
The choir has released five CDs:
- Jonathan Dove: Sappho Sings (2023), a new work commissioned and performed by us with London Mozart Players

Full of Grace: Songs to the Virgin Mary
Featuring a selection of beautiful choral works dedicated to the Virgin Mary, recorded at St. George’s Church, Chesterton in July 2011.

A largely meditative programme of Ave Maria settings spanning four centuries also features Brahms’ radiant Marienlieder and offers a distillation of joy and purity – the perfect tonic. It includes works by a wide range of other composers, both well-known and less well-known: Rachmaninov, Bob Chilcott, Stravinsky, Sandstrom, Villa-Lobos, Praetorius and Rautavaara among others. The CD is produced and engineered by the world-famous John Rutter.

Will Todd: Requiem
Commissioned by Fairhaven Singers, this recording of Will Todd’s Requiem was awarded 5 stars by Choir & Organ Magazine, and an 18 certificate by Aled Jones!
Price: £12 + p&p
This haunting work is both utterly original and eerily familiar, drawing on opera, folk music and plainsong for its inspiration, and revelling in the many gorgeous colours an electric guitar can conjure.

The Blue Skies that Sparkle
The Fairhaven Singers’ first professional recording features choral gems inspired by the beauty of nature.
Price: £5 + p&p
The popularity of our summer concerts may be partly to do with the riverside serving of strawberries and sparkling wine, but we hope that the repertoire plays a part too, and the music featured on this recording is drawn from those concerts. The pieces we have chosen are connected by their reference to nature, seen in various guises: as lifter of the human spirit, as backdrop to love stories happy and sad, as manifestation of God and, of course, as something beautiful and striking in its own right. For us this music is filled with the atmosphere of summer, and we hope that you find it evocative and warming too. It includes Britten’s Five Flower Songs, and pieces by Elgar, Brahms and other well-known composers, as well as by lesser known and recent composers.
Proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to our partner choir in Rio de Janeiro.

Jonathan Dove: Sappho Sings
A beautiful new work by British composer Jonathan Dove, commissioned and performed by Fairhaven Singers with London Mozart Players
Price: £5.99
“It’s testament to the force of Sappho’s art that, even though practically all that remains of her work is, tantalisingly, just fragments, those fragments of her work still have the power to move, intrigue and inspire us. Huge thanks to Ralph Woodward for giving me the opportunity to set Alasdair Middleton’s wonderfully immediate translations, to the London Mozart Players for their fiercely vivid playing, and to the Fairhaven Singers for making Sappho sing again with passion and love.” Jonathan Dove (Composer)
